Supermodel Alek Wek Wrote Book and Changed Supermodeling

Alek Wek: From Sudanese Refugee to International Supermodel is published by Amistad. It is priced at $25. International supermodel Alek Wek tells her story of survival and how she manages to reach the peak of the modeling world. She also writes about how she and her family escape the conflict in her country, Sudan, between the Islamic Arab north and the animist and Christian south. In the book, the 30-year-old self-made millionaire reveals a childhood besieged by a brutal civil war in which she and her family members escaped being among the nearly 2 million people slaughtered. Alek means "black spotted cow," a Dinka symbol of good luck.

After a night of heavy fighting, Alek saw her family home riddled with bullets. The family ended escaping with the clothes on their body. During the refugee years, Alek saw her father dying of a hip infection. At 14, she was lucky enough to be granted a visa to join her sister who had emigrated to England before the war. It is worth buying this book. You will be happy to find out how she was discovered and how Alek ends up changing the face of the modeling world.

Other books I am reading: Confessions of Video Vixen chronicles the alleged sexual escapades of Karrine Steffans with top names in various industries. It has been a best-selling memoir for quite some time. The author brings us a new book with a lot of juicy tales in The Vixen Diaries published by Grand Central Publishing. In this book she responds to rumors and tries to set the truth. She also addresses a lot of more gossip.
