In the book, the 30-year-old self-made millionaire reveals a childhood besieged by a brutal civil war in which she and her family members escaped being among the nearly 2 million people slaughtered. Alek means "black spotted cow," a Dinka symbol of good luck.

After a night of heavy fighting, Alek saw her family home riddled with bullets. The family ended escaping with the clothes on their body. During the refugee years, Alek saw her father dying of a hip infection. At 14, she was lucky enough to be granted a visa to join her sister who had emigrated to England before the war. It is worth buying this book. You will be happy to find out how she was discovered and how Alek ends up changing the face of the modeling world.
